H&T Presspart’s most valuable asset is our employees and key to this is our apprentice scheme which we run across a number of sites within the H&T Presspart Division. As part of National Apprenticeship Week we took the time to interview Naomi, a third year apprentice at H&T Presspart Blackburn.

Hi Naomi! How long have you been working at H&T Presspart?
I have been working at Presspart Blackburn for nearly 4 years and I am currently completing the third year of my apprenticeship.

What made you pick the apprenticeship you’re doing now? Have you always had an interest in engineering?
Doing something skilful has always interested me so I think because of that, I’ve always had an interest in engineering as I find the possibilities and innovation within the industry motivating.

What advice would you give to someone who would want to complete an apprenticeship in a similar field to you?
Always communicate with your mentor about anything you want to do or learn as they are ultimately the ones that can help you the most.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
I like the fact you can learn and earn at the same time rather than having to go to university and then trying to find a job afterwards. I also enjoy learning from people here at Presspart that have been doing the job a lot longer than me as I prefer to learn from experience.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I think ultimately I hope completing my apprenticeship will help me be exposed to a lot more opportunities within the company as I really enjoy working here.
